GREENVILLE -- Marshall's volleyball team was unable to come away with its first district win Tuesday night when it fell to the Greenville Lady Lions in Greenville in four sets by the scores of 13-25, 25-14, 21-25, 17-25.

Marshall now holds an overall record of 7-21 and a District 16-5A record of 0-3.

Gabby Moore had a career high 23 assists to go along with five kills. Kiari Johnson and Ja'Kiya Fisher each had nine kills. Chloe Buchanan finished the night with 11 digs. Emily Ellenburg had six kills.

"We had contributions from all across the board which is an improvement," Marshall head volleyball coach Kayla Green said. "That's something we've been working on."

Green said while her team played well offensively, the same couldn't be said about its offensive effort.

"Again, we found ourselves making our own errors," Green said. "We had had missed serves and it's kind of to win when you can't hold serves. Offensively we had a great game. We had 23 kills and seven errors, which is really great."

Green was quick to compliment the Lady Lions.

"They have some pretty good outside hitters," she said. "They also have a player with a pretty good topspin serve. She about served us off the court. I think now we know what they have and when they come here, I think we'll be ready."

The Lady Mavs will return to action Friday at 4:30 p.m. when they take on the Pine Tree Lady Pirates in Longview.

"I've heard they're a pretty good team," Green said. "I haven't seen them play yet. They beat Hallsville Tuesday so I'm expecting a pretty good match."
