Marshall FFA LDE Teams Qualify For Area

This is the image for the news article titled Marshall FFA LDE Teams Qualify For AreaThe Marshall FFA Leadership Development teams from Marshall High School competed in the Longview District Contest at Waskom High School on Monday, Nov. 13, and brought home a first-place and second-place trophy among other awards at the competition.

The MHS Agricultural Advocacy team, comprised of Israel Gonzalez, Skylar Clark, Marissa Williams, Jessica Stanford and Michael Washington, won first place in district and will advance to Area competition on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Also qualifying for Area was Marshall’s Jackie Malinosky, who finished in second place overall in district Senior Creed Speaking.

“We are extremely proud of all students that participated,” said Jessica Shadix, MHS FFA Advisor and Agriscience teacher. “We increased our participation at the District Contest from one team last year to eight teams this year and from three students to 18 students participating.”

The district contest included 19 schools competing. Schools are not districted by size, but by location, so the competition includes schools ranging from Class 1A to 6A.

Other Marshall teams competing and placing at the district meet were:

• 5th place, Public Relations (Chris Collier, Jake Clark, Ja’Tana Sabbath, Matthew Hasler)

• 5th place, Senior Quiz (Jadden McMahon, Mariah Cofield, Tallon Stevens)

• 6th place, Senior Skills (Colby Chambers, Katelynn Richardson, Lane Howard, Zacarria Green)

• 8th place, Job Interview (Ja’Tana Sabbath)

• 10th place, Junior Quiz (Weston Smith, Jessica Stanford, Marissa Williams)

• 10th place, Radio Broadcasting (Jackie Malinosky, Matthew Hasler, Bailey Green)

The top two teams from Area competition will advance to the State LDE Contest on Dec. 1-2 at Sam Houston State University.
