MHS Cosmetology Shines At Skills USA Competition

This is the image for the news article titled MHS Cosmetology Shines At Skills USA CompetitionStudents in the Marshall High School Cosmetology program competed at the 2017-2018 Skills USA District Meeting held recently in Waco, with several Marshall students earning a trip to the state competition coming up later this spring.

MHS Cosmetology, under the leadership of instructor Yulanda Roach, took nine projects to the exhibits and saw seven of those qualify for the state competition, which will be held in Corpus Christi on April 5-8.

Representing MHS at state will be senior Maleka Marsh (Nail Art Design), who will be making her second straight trip to the state competition. Others who qualified for state include Dee Ann Thompson (Braiding), Judith Jaimes (Evening Updo), Alexa Hicks (Wedding Hair); Blayah Else (Fantasy Hair), Falonzia Craver (Braiding) and Keiyiah Thomas (Nail Art 3-D).

Other competitors for Marshall included Angel Hicks (Hair Salon 3-D), Heather Evans (Nail Art), Vazariya Brewster (Esthetics and Fantasy Makeup) and Blayah Else (Estethics and Fantasy Makeup).

“Skills USA is a student leadership organization led by students,” said Ms. Roach. “We are so proud of each of these young ladies and we look forward to seeing great things from them in the future.”
