Mrs. Fisher was sworn in during Monday’s regular May school board meeting held in the Pat Smith-Gasperson Board Room in the MISD Administration Building. The District 1 position had been vacant since the passing of Mrs. Wilson, who served as a trustee for 28 years, back in late March.

By law, MISD trustees were required to appoint a new trustee to fill the District 1 place on the board within 180 days of Mrs. Wilson’s passing. Mrs. Fisher will serve in the current capacity until May 2019, when a special election will be held to fill the remaining year on the District 1 term. Another election for the position will be held in May 2020, when Mrs. Wilson’s latest term as trustee was scheduled for election.

Mrs. Fisher served as a teacher and counselor in MISD from 1972-2002. Originally from Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Fisher attended and received her bachelor’s degree from Wiley College in 1972 and earned a master’s degree from Prairie View A&M in 1977.

In addition to now serving on the MISD Board of Trustees, Mrs. Fisher also serves as Vice President on the board of the Marshall Pregnancy Resource Center; board member of CAC Marshall; volunteer with the Wiley College Summer Reading Program; volunteer with the Harrison County Historical Museum; and Stork’s Nest Coordinator with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

With Mrs. Fisher’s appointment to the District 1 place on the board, the MISD school board is now back to the full seven members: Barbara Alexander (District 2); Helen Warwick (District 3); Ted Huffhines (District 4); Chase Palmer (District 5); Brad Burris (at-large) and Cathy Marshall (at-large).
