Thank you for your support and interest in joining our Marshall 2019 “Pack The Bus” School Supply Drive! We are truly humbled that you have chosen to partner with us in supplying these essential needs for our Marshall ISD students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5th Grade this year!

School supplies can cost families anywhere from $100-$150 per child each year, and that’s just for the start of school. Throughout the year, parents and teachers are also constantly re-supplying their classrooms in order to give the students the materials they need in order to do their schoolwork in a safe, healthy environment. For a district that has nearly 3 of every 4 schoolchildren coming from a family in poverty, this can be a challenging part of the educational process throughout the year for our schools and families alike.

Marshall ISD, with the help of local businesses, churches, groups and organizations, is sponsoring this year’s “Pack The Bus” campaign and we would appreciate your help! Our goal is to literally pack a school bus (or buses, hopefully) with enough school supplies for every elementary school student (PreK-5th grade) in Marshall. Ultimately, we hope to relieve this burden from every family in Marshall that sends a child or children to our PreK-through-5th Grade campuses this year.

Whether someone wants to sponsor an item or items, drop off individual items that add to the total or simply donate money so that we can purchase the supplies, the dream of “Pack The Bus” is for our Marshall community to come together and help have every single school supply item ready and waiting on our kids when they come back to school in August.

Here’s how it will work. There are three ways to contribute to “Pack The Bus:"

1. SPONSOR – We have listed every school supply need per grade level, with the approximate amounts needed for each. Larger organizations, churches, groups, etc., may choose to sponsor one (or more) of these items and urge their members to bring these supplies to church, or to the club, etc. For example, Group A may choose to “sponsor” notebook paper and binders for 3rd grade. Then we will mark that down on the list and Group A’s contribution will be that item or items. On our Pack the Bus School Supply web page on the MISD website, we will then give credit to that business, church, organization, etc., for sponsoring that school supply item. “Notebook paper sponsored and provided by Immanuel Baptist Church…” for example. Partnering together is also a suggestion – while some groups may not have the resources to sponsor an item individually, they may partner together to sponsor with other like groups. For example, already Marshall’s local healthcare providers have pledged to provide every single needed bottle of hand sanitizer in MISD! Larger businesses/groups/churches may also have avenues to order items in bulk, which can cut down on the overall cost of the donation. However your group chooses to do it, we would appreciate your group choosing to sponsor an item or items for “Pack The Bus.”

2. INDIVIDUAL DONATION – Some individuals may want to participate but not be able to take an entire item on the list. That’s okay; we will take everything and allow everyone to join the fun! If you want to just bring five dozen packages of pencils, or 20 bottles of Elmer’s Glue…we will provide dropboxes/stations around MISD for you to contribute actual school supplies.

3. MONETARY DONATION – Some may want to participate but not actively shop for and purchase the supplies. We welcome monetary donations to Pack The Bus! Simply bring your cash, check, etc., to the MISD Administration Building and see Ms. Ana Ramirez, administrative assistant in the Superintendent’s Office. MISD will then take the money earmarked for Pack The Bus and go school supply shopping this summer!

Beginning Monday, July 29, and for however many days and/or trips it takes, we will drive an MISD school bus around to the various churches, businesses, groups and organizations who have participated in collecting school supplies and “pack the bus.” The bus and supplies will then be driven to each school where the supplies will be distributed according to the need of each campus on the list. These school supplies will then be ready and waiting in classrooms for the students when they come back to school the first day of classes on August 26.

If your group is particularly gung-ho and collects supplies early and doesn’t have storage space…let us know and we will bring a bus to your location and pack it early throughout the summer – multiple times if needed!

This is a massive undertaking but we believe Marshall can make it happen and that ultimately it will provide a shining example for other communities of what can happen when we pull together for a common cause.
