Marshall FFA students will compete in Speech Contests, Scholarship Interviews, Heifer Show, Steer Show, Rabbit Show, and Pig Show.

“Each year our students prepare for these contests with hard work, dedication and practice,” said Jessica Shadix, MHS Agriscience Teacher and FFA Advisor. “Livestock shows aren’t always necessarily about winning, but more about lessons learned through the projects. Students work hard to feed, train and exhibit their projects. We are extremely excited about the effort that these students and all Marshall students are putting in to prepare. Farm City Week will once again be successful because of these efforts.”

Recently, seven Marshall FFA members attended the Cotton Valley Classic Livestock practice show in Carthage, an event that will help students tweak showmanship skills while allowing their animals to practice in a real-show setting.

Marshall’s Jadden McMahon and Michael Washington exhibited their Brahman heifers and came away with top honors in the competition, with Washington winning the “Grand Champion American Heifer” raised by Matt and Missy Garrett.

Ja’Tana Sabbath, Jackie Malinosky, Weston Smith, Bailey Green and Emily Ellenburg exhibited their pig projects and placed well in their classes and in showmanship.

Marshall FFA invites the community to support our FFA program at Farm City Week this year. Several events and shows are available each day, and the sale will be held at 6 p.m. on March 22 at the Marshall Convention Center. Shows are free to the public and held at the Marshall City Arena.
