MHS Debate Competes At Pine Tree

This is the image for the news article titled MHS Debate Competes At Pine TreeMarshall High School’s Maverick Speech and Debate team brought home several top honors from a competition held last weekend at Pine Tree High School.

Marshall students competed in Cross-Examination and Lincoln-Douglas Debate at the Pine Tree Pirate UIL Invitational. In Cross Examination, Marshall’s Haley Hurd and Cloe Carter finished with a perfect 3-0 mark to bring home a second place finish, and teammates Hannia Lerma and Deshona Jernigan finished 2-1 and finished in 11th place.

In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Devan Marshall brought home third place overall after going 3-0 in the tournament. Amber Ogden finished in sixth place, with Dakota Epps finishing 11th and Kaylin Hygh 21st.

“This was a great showing for the squad this weekend,” said MHS Debate coach Kenneth Adcock. “I am proud of the work this team has put in and I am thankful that the results are showing the hours they have sacrificed to learn this craft.”

Marshall will compete in the Whitehouse UIL Invitational Friday and will then travel to the Metroplex to compete in the Richardson TFA Classic on Saturday.
