Maverick Softball Field has become one of the top high school softball facilities in the area and should be even more popular with the addition of a brand new artificial turf surface beginning in the 2021 season.
The home of Maverick softball opened in the 1990s as an all-natural surface just to the southwest of Maverick Baseball Field. The facility includes wraparound bleacher seating constructed on the hillside, with a wide-ranging view of the Marshall High School campus.
The locker room was renovated in 2018-2019 with new lockers and new paint. In May 2020, the MISD Board of Trustees approved a construction project from budgeted funds that provided new artificial turf fields at both the baseball and softball fields as well as the new Maverick Pavilion which now sits just beyond the outfield wall. The turf was completed by Hellas Construction in the fall of 2020, which will allow Maverick softball more valuable time on the field despite the inevitable inclement weather in the winter and spring. The facility also will be a prime playoff venue for softball as well as summer tournaments and camps.
