Phone Free Schools

The purpose of the Phone Free Schools Grant Program is to support Texas school systems in implementing the requirements of House Bill 1481 by providing funding to establish safe, effective, and compliant systems for prohibiting student use of personal communication devices during the school day. This grant enables districts to purchase secure storage solutions, install necessary infrastructure, and obtain contracted services that ensure devices such as phones, tablets, and smartwatches are safely stored and inaccessible to students while on campus.

By reducing distractions, improving student engagement, and supporting a focused learning environment, the program helps schools implement clear, consistent policies aligned with state law while making appropriate exceptions for medical, safety, and legally required accommodations, The grant is designed to equip school systems with the resources needed to adopt, communicate, and enforce phone free policies that contribute to safer and more productive school communities.
