Safety and Facilities Enhancement (SAFE) Grant, Cycle 2

The purpose of the 2022-2025 Safety and Facilities Enhancement (SAFE) Grant, Cycle 2 is to support LEAs in meeting the new state-required school safety standards and in strengthening the overall safety and security of Texas campuses. This grant provides funding for districts to achieve minimum compliance with the Commissioner’s School Safety Standards (Chapter 61, Subchapter CC), including required upgrades in fencing, exterior doors,  windows, silent panic alert technologies, emergency responder radio systems, exterior door numbering, and secure master key lock boxes.

Once compliance with the safety standards is met, the grant also enables LEAs to address additional security needs such as installing security cameras, enhancing communication systems, improving emergency response tools, expanding mental health and threat assessment supports, conducting safety training, and employing school security personnel. Through these investments, the program aims to ensure that every district can create safer, more secure learning environments that prevent, prepare for, and effectively respond to emergencies and threats.
