Title II, Part A

Teacher / Principal Training and Recruiting

This grant provides supplemental funding to improve student achievement. Specifically, the funds are used to improve and elevate teacher and principal quality through recruitment, hiring and retention strategies. The strategies are aimed at increasing the number of high quality teachers and principals placed on campuses and in classrooms. Research and evidence based professional development interventions are used to help districts and schools improve instructional practices in the classroom. In turn, the district and schools are help accountable for student achievement.

TEA Priority

One of Education Commissioner Mike Morath's Strategic Priorities is recruit, support, and retain teachers and principals. Title II funds can be used in a variety of ways to recruit and retain teachers, reduce class sizes, and provide needed professional development. Funds are granted by the federal government to state educational agencies (TEA). The state agencies in turn distribute them to school districts using a formula that takes into consideration district size and poverty levels.
