Title III

English Language Acquisition, Language Enhancement, and Academic Achievement Act

Purpose

The purpose of the Title III component of ESSA is to ensure that Emergent Bilingual (EBs) and immigrants attain English Proficiency and develop high levels of academic achievement in English. The funds are also intended to help English Learners reach the same academic State standards that all children are expected to meet.

Assessment

In the Spring of each year students identified as LEP (Limited English Proficient) are expected to be assessed by TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System). One of the requirements of Title III funding is that LEP students are measured against the states standards of progress and language attainment.
