Marshall ISD is heartbroken to share the passing of one of our dedicated game workers and proud MHS alumnus... In Loving Memory of Waylon “Buc” Buchanan Jr.
Marshall ISD Athletics would like to take a moment to recognize and honor the life and dedicated service of Waylon “Buc” Buchanan Jr., a proud 1981 graduate of Marshall High School and a longtime member of our Marshall Athletic Game Worker family. For many years, Buc faithfully served in numerous roles within the Marshall ISD Athletic Department, working alongside his father, Waylon Buchanan Sr. His dedication, commitment, and willingness to serve made him a valued part of our athletic family.
We are deeply saddened by Buc's passing this week. His years of service, loyalty, and contributions to Marshall Athletics will always be remembered and appreciated. Buc was more than a game worker; he was part of the Marshall Maverick family, and his presence will be greatly missed. We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the Buchanan family during this difficult time.

Jordy Gaddis, Captain at the Marshall Fire Department, spoke with high school students about kitchen fire safety. The discussion covered staying attentive while cooking, keeping flammable materials away from stovetops, preventing grease buildup, and using cooking equipment safely. Students also learned how to respond to kitchen fires, including never using water on a grease fire, proper fire extinguisher use, and knowing when to evacuate and call 911.

Introducing our 2026 Alumni Award of Excellence Recipients! Marshall ISD is honored to recognize Dr. Walter Samuel McAfee (Central High School, Class of 1930) and Ray Ben Nesbitt (Marshall High School, Class of 1952) for their remarkable contributions and lasting impact on Marshall and beyond.
On Friday, October 9, 2026, we celebrated their extraordinary legacies as they were inducted into the Marshall High School Hall of Fame. Their accomplishments continue to inspire generations, and we are proud to honor their place in our community’s history. Dr. McAfee's sister, Velma McAfee Williams, niece, Yvonne Williams Boyd and cousin Maxine McAfee who nominated him for this award accepted it on his behalf. Mr. Nesbitt’s family was unable to join that evening, so Dr. Langley and faculty members accepted this award on his behalf.

Marshall Independent School District has met the qualifications for the second year in a row to be named a CTAT CTE District of Distinction for 2026-2027!
This distinction recognizes the district for high-quality career and technical education programs that prepare students for college, careers and the workforce.
CTAT's CTE District of Distinction program recognizes Texas school districts that demonstrate strong CTE leadership, innovative programming, alignment with workforce needs and positive student outcomes. Districts are selected based on established criteria that include industry-based certifications, career pathways, industry partnerships and other practices that strengthen student preparation for high-demand careers.
Marshall Independent School District offers CTE programs designed to connect classroom learning with postsecondary education and workforce opportunities. “Marshall ISD offers 20 CTE programs designed to connect classroom learning with postsecondary education and workforce opportunities. From dual credit course options in cosmetology, health science, culinary arts, welding, diesel mechanics, etc. to internship and practicum placements at HoltCat PowerSystems, Marshall Animal Hospital, Marshall Floral Co., and Dillards Feed House to name a few, our CTE Mavs are excelling in career connected learning,” said Charlotte Leon, Director of CTE.

At last night's Regular Board Meeting, we took a moment to recognize and celebrate our incredible campus principals! Each principal received a small gift as a token of our appreciation for their leadership, dedication, and the countless ways they support our students, staff, and school communities every day. Mr. Miller, Principal at Marshall High School, was unable to attend, but he received a gift as well.

VU Scholarships is a program that helps high school students discover potential college scholarship opportunities before even applying to college. MISD partnered with VU to make the process seamless, less stressful, and exciting as students see which colleges and universities may offer them scholarships based on their GPA/academic achievements.
At the time of the celebration:

Marshall Independent School District is delighted to announce that as of September 28, 2026, we have a new Director of Curriculum & Instruction, Madeline Anderson!
Mrs. Anderson grew up in Midlothian, married her high school sweetheart, and graduated from U.T. Arlington (also Mavericks!) with a Bachelor's degree in English and Master's in Education. Her husband's work brought them to East Texas from the DFW area about 10 years ago, and they are thrilled to be here. In her spare time, she loves to read, bake, garden, and travel!
Teaching English for 24 years inspired her to help other teachers, so after all her kids graduated, she was fortunate to be invited to join the administrative team at Ore City ISD as assistant principal then Director of Curriculum and TIA lead. She has been blessed to work at districts both small and large including Mansfield, Grandview, Cedar Hill, Gilmer and Ore City before arriving in Marshall. Regardless of the district, the most rewarding part has always been seeing students learn something new and get excited about it.
